It’s that time of year folks when every email, phone call, Zoom/Teams meeting and face to face greeting contains the traditional new year greeting. And then sometime mid to late February we start to question “is it too late’ to wish someone a happy new year and then do it anyway. And by early March it really is too late!
Unless you’ve forgotten to do your tax return in which case you might try it on with HMRC and see if they take pity on you.
The first day back for the Blackberry team was a day of planning, identifying our key priorities for the year, reviewing the event calendar and agreeing a few ambitious goals for the 12 months ahead.
Planning of course is not just something we do once a year. It’s our day job too, we are first and foremost event planners.
When planning an event, we always start with a detailed discussion with the client team about their objectives for their event, so it was only right we started our 2024 planning meeting in the same way; exploring the overall aims and objectives for the year ahead.
The next steps include understanding the purpose of the event, the key messages and what the client want the audience to do as a result of attending the event as these are all critical to how we shape the future planning activities.
We call this our event strategy service. Asking important and sometimes difficult questions to ensure that we have a detailed knowledge and understanding of the project and critically how we will ultimately measure the success of the event.
Event strategy, event delivery and event evaluation are the three pillars of project planning, so it's not a massive leap to looking at the strategy, delivery and evaluation for our 2024 business goals.
Following the advice of the popular phrase ‘what gets written down gets done’, we captured all our key objectives which are now proudly on display in the office kitchen as a daily visual reminder.
We’ll let you know how we get on with our business goals but in the meantime have a very happy new year. We look forward to a busy, fun and rewarding year ahead.
